The Frame & Picture Shoppe first opened its doors in 1996 and has been a staple of Wilbraham Massachusetts ever since.
Before I purchased the business in 2021, I had already worked in a creative environment. For several years, I worked on the Transformers and G.I. Joe brands by Hasbro. I was the Creative Manager for both lines working on several high-level areas including toy design, branding, intellectual property development, and licensing. I worked across several mediums including film, television, publishing, video games, and toys. I first met Kimberley (the previous owner) when I needed to begin framing my extensive art collection I had built up over the many years of being in the entertainment industry. After several years, she took me on as her apprentice. When she made the decision to retire it was an obvious choice to take over the store and continue her legacy.
The Process
Walk in the door (with something to be framed “in hand”) I can’t give someone a quote or design/present something for them if I don’t have the piece in hand.
I will ask several questions to begin my creative process
- Who is this item for?
- Are there any colors you’re trying to match where it will most likely hang – wall colors/furniture
- Is this a gift?
- Is there anything significant about the piece
I begin to pull together ideas and present them to the customer right there and then
- mat boards
- frame selections
- types of mounting
- types of glass
I explain to them a bit about how something is framed and why I’m making the suggestions I’m making.
Bring your item to be framed with you. Can’t stress this enough, the process will start immediately.
Understand that quality work takes time – on average 2.5-3 weeks before most orders are complete.
Be prepared to leave a deposit – usually around 50% upfront and the rest upon completion.
